Son of a beach.

Tuesday, August 31, 2004
. The beach was great. It was my first time swimming or even seeing the ocean, so of course it was great. But it's also great to be home. I'm still burnt and sore. But it isn't so bad now. I'm still trying to catch up on my reads and post something at the same time. So my other blog may not be updated for a few more days. So for now, I leave you with a list and a meme.

things I learned at the beach
  1. Wear sunscreen. LOTS of sunscreen.
  2. Watch the Weather Channel. Make sure there isn't a Tropical Storm headed to your destination.
  3. Don't go to the beach with your ex. You can't flirt with any hot looking surfers.
  4. Everything costs money. Wanna go to the end of the pier? 5 dollars. Wanna go to the top of the lighthouse? 6 dollars. So yeah, bring lots of cash.
  5. Don't stay in a hotel because you think it's pretty. (That's a pretty hotel, let's stay there. 172 dollars a night. )
  6. The crabs will bite you.
  7. As much as you wanna see a shark... it's not gonna happen.
  8. Sunglasses are a must.
  9. Those waves are very powerful and will remove your bikini every chance they get.
  10. Ocean water tastes like semen. It really does.

. Once again the weekend was filled with unwanted, unnecessary family drama. It was a big crappy ending to my summer. Classes start today and I'm not ready. I mean... I am. I need a new bathing suit, and a camera. And a new pair of jeans. And a shirt. And maybe a new bra. Ohhh... and I'd like to have a new cell phone before I leave. Note to self: Give absolutely no family members new phone number until after my trip. But yeah... back to school today. It is after midnight, no? Four days of classes and then to the beach. Rain rain, go away.

Friday, August 20, 2004
. Classes start on Monday. I'm so not ready. I just bought my text books today. I'm just so damn tired. And I'm really trying to enjoy my summer. I can't believe it's over. Just this weekend to go, and then it's over. So sad. Next weekend I am taking off to go to the beach, if things work out as planned. I've never seen the ocean and it's about damn time that I did. Leave Friday night, back Sunday night. No classes missed, no harm done, and I will have finally marked that off of my to do list.

. Happy moments:
Wednesday: Paul Hamm winning gold.
Thursday: Carly Patterson winning gold.
Friday: Well duh, it's the weekend, Dude.

. It's been raining for 2 days, and it still is. I normally love the rain, but this is my last weekend before classes. I want to be outside. I want a bonfire. I want to frolic in the flowers. Ok, maybe not the flowers thing, but ya never know.

Weapons of mass seduction.

Tuesday, August 17, 2004
. Friday was pretty bad. Mostly family drama which I don't feel like blogging about. And I started my period, which always makes for a bad day. I knew I shoulda stayed in bed. Saturday was better. Sunday and Monday were great. So all in all I guess it was a good weekend.

. Saturday I went to a keg party and played immature drinking games. Sunday and Monday were spent with friends lounging around watching the Olympics, taking Halee and Zack to the park and such.

. Most often than not, young women are labeled as the least likely to vote. I have not decided yet as to whom I will cast my vote for, but I did find this site that waves that middle finger in the air to anyone that thinks young women aren't interested in politics.

. Happy Moments:

Friday: Finding that perfect shade of lip gloss.
Saturday: Meeting 2 new friends and having an absolute blast, like we had known each forever.
Sunday: Finally watching the Olympics.
Monday: Just knowing that all family drama will end eventually. Hopefully.
Tuesday: Being woke up at 7am by a 3 year old that just has to watch cartoons.

. Classes start in less than a week and I feel like I have no time to do anything at all. So both of my blogs may be seriously neglected for the next few weeks. I will update my other blog tomorrow. Seriously, I will try very hard. Really.

Friday the 13th.

Friday, August 13, 2004
. I'm not a superstitious girl, but last Friday the 13th was awful. One after another, bad things just kept happening. Ya think that is gonna make me stay home tonight ? Hell no.

. So I have little time to do much of anything. But theres always time for a meme. I'll have a real update on Monday. For both blogs. Have a great weekend y'all.

Friday Four

8.13.04 ** Cue the scary music**

1. Do you have any phobias? Not really. Some bugs freak me out. Driving used to freak me out.

2. What's your biggest fear? Never figuring out what I want to do with my life.

3. Do you participate in any superstitions? Again, not really. If I ever rock a rocking chair with no one sitting in it, my mom screams her head off at me.

4. Why does the last person in Friday the 13th always find all the bodies? Because... it is a movie. A pretty dumb one at that.

All the time.

4. Have you "done it"?

Judgement day.

Tuesday, August 10, 2004
. The pain is mostly gone, it only hurts when I bend over or hit a pothole. Or something equally as stupid.

. The last episode of Outback Jack is on tonight. I'm sad to see it be over, but oh well. In 2 weeks I'll be in class on Tuesday nights anyway.

. I know I said I wouldn't post a link to my other blog again. But I did update it. So sue me.

. Monday's Happy Thought: Actually being able to get some sleep.
Tuesday's Happy Thought: A long, hot bubble bath.

. I'm so sick of judgemental people. Always thinking the worst. Always thinking that their way is the right way. The only way. I went to the DMV yesterday and had to listen to a lady ramble on for 20 minutes about how this other lady sitting nearby wasn't dressed appropiately. (No, it wasn't me) Why do some people have such superior attitudes? I mean, really... Why are some people so quick to judge? And who the hell said it was your place to judge in the first place? People like that really bug me. Is there a big book of right? And you read each and every page and so you know what is right and what isn't? I don't think so. Its not just about the way you look. I hear people all the time judging others. For their looks, their lifestyles, their ideas, their beliefs. I finally got up and moved away from the lady but not before I looked calmly at her and said... "Keep the peace." LOL. I know... It just popped out of my mouth. I have no idea what I was thinking. I don't think I have ever said 'keep the peace' in my entire life. Don't ask me why it popped out at that particular time.
Believe me, I know some things are just plain wrong. But for judging people that are in no way harming or affecting others is just friggin' ignorant. Not everyone has the same beliefs. Not everyone is gonna live life like you do. Just because it is different, does not mean it is wrong. People really do fear that which they do not understand. Fear makes people stupid. So... to all those people that think they have the RIGHT to judge everyone else. Keep the peace.

I really wanted to say Fuck you. Or kiss my ass. But yeah... Ya know.

Just a little pain.

Monday, August 09, 2004
. I posted something Friday and it just now showed up. Nice.

. The weekend was fine. Nothing exciting, just hanging out with friends. Drinking, dancing, laughing. Ya know.

. I'm in pain. I've had problems with my ovaries for over 5 years now. Most of the time the pain is barely an issue. But twice, the pain was so bad that I had to be hospitalized. The pain isn't to that point yet, but I have a feeling that I will be. At first it feels like back pain. Like I pulled a muscle in my back, or slept funny in bed and it hurts to move. But I have medication. Hopefully the pain will be gone by tomorrow and there won't have to be a visit to the doctor.

. My new obsesion: Watching sports on TV. Even golf, which usually bores me to death. Along with the fact that I rarely watch TV makes it all the more strange. In the last 2 weeks I have watched skateboarding, bmx biking, golf, volleyball, and old college football games. I am REALLY excited about watching the Olympics. But they start on a Friday and last for 2 weeks. Can you see me staying home on a Friday and sitting in front of the TV for 2 weeks? Ha. Thats what TIVO is for.

. I dont have TIVO. Damn.

. VCR. Yeah... VCR.

. Happy times...

Saturday's Happy Moment - Pigging out at McDonalds and feeling no guilt.
Sunday's Happy Moment - Sunday dinner with 15 family members.

. Monday's moment and an update for my other blog will come later. I know... the suspense is killing ya.

Current music obsession: Tom Petty.
Current food obsession: Pizza and cookies.
Current clothes obsession: Jeans.
Current makeup obsession: Wet-n-wild lip gloss.
Current movie obsession: Jaws.
Current TV obsession: Outback Jack.
Current random obsession: Boys. And Booze.

I think I have Adult A.D.D.

Thursday, August 05, 2004
. Ok, maybe not Adult.

. Happy moment of the day : watching Dawson's Creek and eating yesterday's pizza.

. For the one and only time, here is the link to my new blog. It is all about sex. So if you don't wanna read about it. Don't.

. I love dogs. I hate dog hair.

. My keyboard needs to be dusted. Too many crumbs.

. My pants are too tight.

. My room smells. (like paint, ya sicko)

. My big toe is bruised. I may be a bit clumsy.

. I'm quite tired. I watched Signs again last night. I cannot watch creepy movies. I can't sleep for 2 days after viewing scary things. I see things in the shadows. I kept thinking I was seeing an alien hovering above me. So I kept my eyes closed as tightly as I could. Then I had to pee, when I opened my eyes, I saw the 2 little green lights from the VCR and I thought an alien was staring at me. I screamed. Woke up my friend. (I stayed with a friend last night. A girl. No we are not gay, but we are close enough that we aren't bothered by sleeping in the same bed.) This was the 3rd time that I woke her up already. At first I made her let me sleep by the door. Because the way I had it figured, if an alien was going to come after us, he would come through the window and I could run out the door and the alien would get her first. lol. The more I thought about it and the more I stared at the door, I figured the alien would come through the door. So I made her switch sides so I could be by the window and the alien would get her first. lol. I'm such a good friend. When I was little I slept in my parents bed until the double digits. I'm serious. And when they finally kicked me out of their bed, I slept outside their bedroom door. Finally, I talked my sister into letting me sleep with her. She kicked me out too. Finally, once I was in my own bed, I figured that if I lined up all of my stuffed animals on either side of me that the aliens/monsters/ghosts/vampires/witches/boogie men would get my stuffed animals before they would get me. lol. I know... I'm warped. I did this until I was 15. Make fun of me and I will send the aliens after you. |

Do you wanna dance?

Wednesday, August 04, 2004
Happy thought of the day: Going out with friends.

. Which is what I am about to do.

Have a great hump day, ya'll.

. I've started a new blog. An... intimate blog. Details to come.

. No... I do not want to brag about my sex life. I just feel like it is a big part of me and I'd like to write about it. But I'm not gonna do it here, so I started a new one just for this reason. I know some of you do not want to read about my sex life. And you won't have to. Unless you wanna...

. Does anyone find it amusing that my name is Misty and one of my closest friends is named Rainy? No? Just me then. |

The kindness of strangers.

Tuesday, August 03, 2004
. That is my happy thought of the day. Some people are just so thoughtful and caring that it blows my mind. Its amazing how someone that barely even knows me can be so nice and willing to help. If a person can be so understanding and helpful to a total stranger, imagine how lucky their loved ones are.

That, my friends, is a happy thought.

. Now I'm going to paint my bedroom. A lovely blue that makes me think of the ocean. Then I'm going to put my mattress on the floor, right in the middle of the room with several big fluffy pillows. And that is just the beginning. Now I'm getting a Little Mermaid vibe. How much fun do you think would be made of me if I had a Little Mermaid bedroom?

That much... ya think?

Happy happy, joy joy.

. Monday I didn't really do too much. Spent time with Zack and Halee again. Talked to my guidance counselor. Ate too much, again. Hung out with friends. Mainly my ex, which is a whole 'nother post altogether.

. Outback Jack is on tonight. I love that show. Its so damn corny that it makes me giggle. And Jack is one fine looking man.

. I feel stuffed and tired. So... Maybe I'll just sleep for 12 consecutive hours... I wish.

. Yes, I am hopping on the happy bandwagon. I saw this over at Barry's... The Purple Princess has issued a challenge To post one happy thought or moment each day in August. Since I started a few days late, here are mine for Sunday and Monday. Not today though, because it just began.

. Happy moment : Sunday, August 1 : Spending half the day with Zachary.
. Happy moment : Monday, August 2 : My niece saying...'I loves you Misty'.

. Saw this over at Lori's. Had to take it.

To better understand, we must learn.

. What happened to July? It was here a minute ago. The summer is going by way too fast.

. The weekend is over. Le sigh. Friday I went out alone. Drank, played pool, had sex. (not alone) Ha. Yeah... its pretty sad when ya laugh at your own jokes, huh? Saturday was pretty much the same. Sunday afternoon I had Halee and Zack for 4 or 5 hours. After that I was almost ready to just go to bed. But I didn't. I went out again. Debauchery ensued. I know some of you want details, but thats not gonna happen here. Use your imagination... or e-mail me.

. I'm not going to go into detail about the reasons behind it, but... for 3 years I raised my nephew, Zack. I also raised Halee but for not quite that long. Zachary was born with microcephaly. As in most cases of this disease, Zack was also born with developmental delay and mental retardation. From the time Zack was born, I could tell something wasn't right. He never cried. Ever. All the doctors and nurses told me that I should be thankful, not worried, that he didn't cry. Finally, after many repeated attempts to persuade his doctor to refer me to a specialist, Zack was diagnosed as being 'developmentally delayed'. It wasn't until months later, after finally getting Zack an appointment 2 states away in Kentucky's Shriner's Hospital, that Zack was finally diagnosed with microcephaly. In the beginning, the doctors told me that Zack's case was severe. That he would never walk. That he would never talk. That he would not even be able to hold his own head up. That his life expectancy was no more than 10 years. But I wasn't listening. I instantly put Zack in school. A school for special needs kids. I went with him too, of course. But the school wasn't what I expected. I expected to see kids like Zack. Every child in that class could walk. Zack could barely sit up. I cried. Right there in front of all the kids, teachers, and therapists. I cried. Hard. It was only the second time I had cried since finding out about Zack's condition. The first time was when they told me that he had microcephaly. I was with my mother and Zack's father. None of us cried. We were in shock, I think. I didn't want to cry in front of Zack. But as we started the long drive home, I heard his father start to cry in the backseat, I cried with him. Since that day, I never cried about it again. I wouldn't let myself. I had to be strong. I had to do what I could for Zack. I had to. Until that day in school. It all hit me at once. And I cried. After I regained my composure I realized that the class wasn't so bad. It was just what Zack needed. I also had a physical therapist come to the house 3 times a week. She was great and she taught me so many things so very well that I was able to do Zack's therapy myself. Eventually, Zack began to do things on his own. He couldn't talk, but he could sure as hell cry now. He couldn't walk but he gets where he wants to go. He scoots around on his butt. He can stand on his own now. He can pull himself up onto his bed. He can go anywhere he wants to. But he's still only 6 years old. Pretty good for a kid that wasn't even expected to sit up by himself. The last time we took Zack to Kentucky, they gave us more bad news. They told us that he would never walk or talk. That those are learned behaviors from birth to age 3 and that if he didn't learn it by the time he was 3 he never would. That's ok. I won't quit. Ever. I know what Zack is trying to tell me without words. We don't need 'em do we? I know my sentences are jumbled and I went back and forth so many times you probably got lost on this story, I'm sorry. Its an emotional subject. Those were 3 very rough years. Spending the day with Zack yesterday brought all those old memories back to me. But the reason for this post is mainly awareness. I think it is the saddest thing when a parent doesn't understand their own child's disease. I know most parents with a disabled child are very well educated on the matter. But I've met a few that aren't. Its a very scary thing. It leaves you with the sickest feeling in your stomach. These people need to educate themselves to better learn how to care for their special child. Read about it, talk about it, ask questions, ask for help. It is out there.
